![]() ![]() This whole storyline trades on longstanding relationships that haven’t registered in these versions of the characters – Bruce trying to atone for the death of a Clark he barely knew and didn’t even like has no resonance … Ezra Miller and Billy Crudup are fine as Flash and Dad (though that storyline’s already been done on the TV show) and it’s nice to see Silas Stone (Joe Morton) working with sometime-Atom Ryan Choi (Ryan Zheng) but that’s all set-up for something we won’t get, like the gambit of Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) telling Deathstroke (Joe Mangianello) Batman is Bruce Wayne after everyone else seems to be in on it. ![]() Gloomy zombie Superman in a black suit is still a missed opportunity for Cavill, who was at his best weird upper lip or no, in Joss Whedon’s footage. Otherwise, the new stuff is just that – stuff … a bit with Flash rescuing Iris West (Kiersey Clemons) after the manner of Evan Peters as Quicksilver but with a touch less flair (one thing no one wants to hear – Bryan Singer directs super-powers better than Zack Snyder or anyone working on the MCU) … a more fleshed-out Cyborg story that pretty much covers any ground his abandoned solo movie might have … Harry Lennix as Martian Manhunter popping in but kind of sabotaging the premise by not joining the fight (if he did, we wouldn’t need that whole bring-Superman-back thread) … and the trinity – well-cast Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot – appearing for longer and in a few action beats but not really registering as characters they are obviously qualified to play at full strength (and, in Gadot’s case, actually have). Otherwise, and it shouldn’t be a surprise, it’s pretty much the same story, pegged to the same fifth-tier DC menace (Steppenwolf), though now we also see an all-CGI Darkseid (Ray Porter) and get intimations/flash-forwards-dreams of a probably never-to-be-made alternate timeline future sequel picking up from that Evil Superman/Resistance Bats bit of Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice that eat up a whole chunk of the multi-part epilogue (which includes Jared Leto as the Joker). ![]() Well, it’s longer – four hours – and squarer – Academy ratio, suitable for IMAX though you’re watching it at home – and doesn’t have that Joss Whedon bit where Aquaman sits on the lasso of truth. Here are some notes on the extended/reworked version … Here’s my Sight & Sound review of the theatrical release cut of Justice League. My notes on Justice League (Zack Snyder’s Justice League) ![]()

If you're wearing red or gray or green jeans, take a b/w photo, and feed it to the AI, it will still turn the jeans blue. It's a matter of likelihood: if the b/w pic contains jeans, the AI will turn them blue because it has learned from the training data that jeans are most likely to be blue. With clothes, this doesn't work because the pictures in the training dataset probably contained all kinds of different colours of clothing. The AI gets skin tones and the colour of grass and stuff like this right because the hue of skin doesn't vary all that much, and it has been trained with thousands of photos containing skin, so it can map specific values to to a specific combination of hue, value, and saturation whenever it recognises the object "skin" in a photo. It's not possible to determine the hue of a colour if you only know the value (and the saturation I guess, but that's always zero in b/w photos). However, the website also generates a verbal description of the photo, and you can edit that: When I changed "dress" to "red dress", it changed the colour of the dress to red. It doesn't really understand it – I tested it by converting a colour photo of somebody wearing a bright red dress to b/w, and then I uploaded the b/w pic to the website. ![]() ![]() Don’t expect to be watching movies on this thing, not that you can, but for straight text and illustrations it’s a very pleasant reading device, with a choice of fonts and sizes to suit your reading taste. So what makes the Glo HD an “HD” device? It’s the 1448×1072 300ppi display screen, which is extremely sharp for an e-ink display. Kobo provides a desktop app for PCs and Macs, as well as distinct apps for Android and iOS, although that’s more a direct reading app than a particular inducement to purchase a Kobo Glo HD. There’s only a single button, which controls its on/off state and nothing else everything else the Kobo Glo HD can do is done via its touchscreen. It’s still rather resolutely a plastic device, with a light pattern on the rear that stops it from being too slippery. ![]() That gives it a reasonable heft in the hand without being overly heavy for lengthier reading sessions. The Kobo Glo HD measures in at 157 x 115 x 9.2 mm with a carrying weight of 180 grams. It’s broadly similar to most other e-readers, were it not for the fact that there’s really only two major players left Kobo and its much larger rival, Amazon with its Kindle line. It’s against that framework that you’ve got to assess Kobo’s latest e-Reader, the high resolution Glo HD. E-Reader vendors point to the lower eyestrain from e-ink devices, along with the long battery life of these devices as key selling points against tablets, smartphones or even laptop reading. Switching from Paper to eReader (Kobo Glo HD Revie. The Kobo Glo HD is an excellent e-reader at a very appealing price point, although as always there’s a bit of regrettable vendor lock-in at play.Į-readers as a category are in an interesting spot, because there’s so very many other devices you can use to read short or long books of any type.Mini Piñatas (Snowball Piñatas for a Frozen Party). ![]() (You can use the app on your Android or Apple device even if you don't have a Kobo eReader!) ![]() This offer ends June 30th, 2015 at 11:50pm EST. Right now you can get 35% off selected titles with the Kobo discount code: raisingmemories and by clicking here. There are some paper books that I wouldn't part with, but I will probably start to buy eBooks to avoid expanding my physical library too much! I've also tried borrowing eBooks through my library and I love the convenience of it! I was eyeing a series of large, hard-cover books that my mom has on her bookshelf, thinking how much easier it would be to read with the Kobo! I'm definitely excited about the possibilities with this eReader! I will probably hold onto that special copy of Anne of Green Gables as long as it's in good shape. Maybe you can tell from the way that this post was written that I am a fan of the Kobo Glo HD! After 7 days, I can say that I'm converted! Will I throw out all of my books? No. And finally, it gives you fun facts and stats, like telling you how many hours you've read and how frequently you turn pages, etc. A feature I really like is that you can search the eBookstore for a book and when you find one you think you'll like, you can download a free preview and start reading to see if you think you'll really like it, before you buy it. You can also borrow eBooks through library websites! The Kobo will even give you personalized recommendations for your next book, based on what you've been reading. Getting books onto the Kobo is easy to do with their 24/7 eBookstore through Wi-Fi. With an eReader, you can do those things with no problem! AND if I don't want to bring the Kobo with me, or I wasn't expecting to have time to read while I was out, I can pull up the Kobo app on my ipad or phone and just pick up wherever I left off because the app syncs with my Kobo! I also wouldn't be able to relax in bed and hold it however I wanted to, comfortably. If I were reading through that big book, I wouldn't bring it with me to read in a waiting room because of how big it is. I'm also loving how easy it is to bring the Kobo with me. Now consider the fact that you can fit thousands of books on that little Kobo! Just looking at the Kobo next to my copy of Anne of Green Gables, you can see a big difference in size (the Kobo Glo HD is just 6" x 4.5" x. If I start putting books on the eReader, I'll be able to make a big difference in the space that my library takes up. I'm excited about the purging possibilities that this eReader presents, too! I've been trying to get rid of excess "stuff" in my home, to de-clutter and simplify. ![]() ![]() ![]() Helpful Error messages when loading a schema If you only want to use the “there” object in the schema, you can specify the schema path as “/Json/Json2/Schema2.json#/properties/there”, and you will get the intellisense listing only properties defined in the “there” object. ![]() For example, you have defined the “there” property in the “Schema2.json” schema as shown in the screenshot below. We also provide the capability to reference a particular structure in a schema using the hash sign (#) in the schema path. Using this option helps us not have to restart a new Visual Studio session in order for the JSON editor to start using an updated version of the schema. If it’s an online schema, we will re-download it into the cache directory, and load into memory. If it’s a local schema, we will reload its current version into memory. We can also force the JSON editor to reload the schema by using the “ ?reload” option appended to the schema path, for example: “/Json/Schema.json?reload”. If it’s not present, we will download the schema again and store in the cache. If the schema is found there, we will use it. For an online schema, when starting a new session of Visual Studio, we check the schema cache. For a local schema, the schema will be reloaded into memory when the user starts a new session of Visual Studio. We do reload a schema in certain circumstances depending on whether it’s a local schema or an online one. We don’t check and reload the updated schema automatically when the schema is in use. The path to the schema cache is at C:UsersAppDataLocalMicrosoftVisualStudio12.0SchemasJSON. If a schema is being downloaded from the internet, it will be cached locally to improve the performance. However, you can only use this method for a schema within the Solution Explorer.Ī local schema will only be loaded into memory. Or you can drag and drop the schema node from Solution Explorer in Visual Studio to the schema textbox which is easy and fast. ![]() Note that using the absolute path won’t work when you publish or use the JSON file on a different machine, so it’s better to use a relative path instead. “c:usersdocumentsvisual studio 2013ProjectsWebApplication1WebApplication1JsonJson2Schema2.json” For example, for a project with the following structure:Īll of the following schema paths are equivalent for json1.json: It can be either a full path or a relative path from the current JSON file, or from the project root. You can also type directly into the schema textbox the path to the schema. You can select a schema from the dropdown list which includes some common schemas to start with. You have to use the $schema property in order for the JSON editor to pick it up outside of your current project. However, if you need to pass this same JSON file to another user, or use it in a different project, the schema specified in the schema textbox will not stick. You can also specify the schema for a JSON file using the schema textbox instead of using the $schema property in the file and it can be faster. Specify the schema in the dropdown textbox If you change the dropdown selection to “” and specify a new schema in the $schema property, the editor won’t pick up and apply the new schema. Note that the JSON editor will load and associate the schema defined in the $schema property only once for a new JSON file. You need to close and re-open the file, and the JSON editor will read the $schema property, add an entry in the schema dropdown list and select it. You can specify the schema to be used for this JSON file by defining the “$schema” property as shown below When you add a new JSON file to your project, the schema dropdown box will show Specify the schema within a JSON file using the “$schema” property This will make working with complex JSON structures based on a schema much easier. In the RC version of Visual Studio 2013 Update 2, we added intellisense support for JSON Schema v3 and v4. In the previous post, we introduced our new JSON editor in the CTP 2 release of Visual Studio 2013 Update2. ![]() |
